Happy Family Life = Happy work life?

This may sound like a cliché but most people who are successful in their careers have a happy home life. It is hard to focus on productivity, creativity, or your job in general if you are miserable at home. A stable home environment makes it easier to get up and go to work. Everyone’s definition of a happy life is somewhat different. I came up with 10 things that I think help a person to live a happier life.

Happy spouse. As they say happy wife, happy life. We must be on the same page with our spouse concerning children, finances, and life goals. If you are miserable to be around, your family will notice.

Positive attitude. We must look upon our home life with a positive attitude. Life is too short to dread coming home every day. If we can’t approach our home life with a positive attitude then it is time to look at yourself in the mirror for change.

Family hour.  Studies have shown that families that sit down for dinner together and discuss their day are closer knit families than those that don’t take the time to communicate with each other. No I-pads, phones, or television during dinner.

Give unto others. There isn’t anything better for the soul or the mind than giving of  your time and finances to help others. Take time to volunteer or donate to a cause that you are passionate about and get your children involved also

Create goals. Establish goals in your family life that are achievable. Whether it is saving for a vacation or putting back for an early retirement, have something that the family can work toward achieving together.

Establish friendships. Two families doing stuff together is always better than one.

Healthy living. The older we get, the more we have to be conscious of our health. Clean eating and regular exercise helps a person to stay better focused on their job.

Don’t be selfish. Family is not all about you. Take others feelings into account and try to do things for them and with them that they enjoy.

Feed your mind.  Find things to read or do to feed your mind. The older we get, the more important it is to keep a strong mind and spirit.

Don’t be a miserable person.  Try not to be a negative person, it spreads to everyone around you. Make it a goal to make at least one person smile every day. If nothing else, people will wonder what you are up to.

All of these things don’t guarantee a happy family or successful professional life but you will be a better person for it.
